It is painfully obvious that people are trying to get more points by answering questions that already have a perfectly satisfactory answer and taking advantage of the fact that later answers show at the top of the screen, and answering multiple times. I have literally seen answers that were copy and pasted from the person before them. Bud's set up a pretty cool system here that everybody can benefit from. It's not about the points, it's about educating people. Don't mess it up.

I tried asking buds to change it to where the answers were listed from old at top to newest at the bottom they did not seem interested in the suggestion

Yea it can be irritating. I've been first to answer and not get the points because someone else posts the same answer.
