The CA compliant model has a "Spacer" around the hand grip so it can't function as a "Pistol grip". The regular model has a true pistol grip. The CA model can take a 30rd Magazine but of course is illegal in the state of CA.

The way the stock is made fills in around the "pistol grip" to stop the hand from wrapping around it spo it is not a pistol grip it also has Springfield Armory Saint CA compliant see article https://www.ammoland.com/2017/09/springfield-armory-announces-another-california-compliant-saint/#axzz5AgSD1OVB
