It shouldn't have any problems firing it. It the chambering another round that you may have some hang ups with. Every gun is different though. It may do just fine with steel cased ammo. Steel cased ammo doesn't always feed as well in my experience. I own some firearms that will eat through cases of it and other that will have a stove-pipe here and there. You won't really know for sure unless you buy it and cycle some rounds through it. Other people have had success with the BLRs and steel cases, and I have read some where people were having some issues. Firing safely shouldn't be the issue, it would like be a feed/extract/ejection type issues.

It will be safe. Some people actually roll the steel cased ammo on a lightly oiled rag before they use it and it feeds better. Take a 22 cleaning rod with you when you go to the range.
