Caliber will be 5.56/223 Paul. Two of the best starter AR's are the S&W M&P Sport II or the ruger 5.56. Always get as many magazines as you can comfortably afford as one AR becomes two becomes three etc. A Couple of 5 rounders in case you ever hunt with 20, 30rd being your staple supply. We all started at the same place as novices and now I own 8 AR's.
