the recoil pad on the express is about a medium not hard but not super soft the good thing is there are may super recoil pads out there if you don't like this one. the limbsaver is about the softest on the market but for me they don't last more than a year or two. I prefer the pachmayr decelerator recoil pads or the kick ezz pads
