Hi Kurt, the 6.5 Creedmor rounds are exceptional for both White Tail Deer & Wild Hogs. They are both fine for deer and hogs. They can both take deer effectively out to about 600 yards. The difference lies in game below and beyond deer and hog sized game. The 6.5 Creed hunts deer and hogs very much like a .308. It can shoot larger bullets (up to 160 grain) making it a better choice for elk and moose sized game within a 250 yard range. With the exceptionally low wind resistance and low recoil of a 2650 fps 140g bullet, it has become popular for 1000 yard competition but its maximum range remains at about 600 yards for deer sized game. Max speed with its smallest 95g bullet is about 3350 fps but most deer bullets move around 2750 fps. If you also shoot a lot of close range moose and elk, I'd suggest the 6.5 Creed. However, if deer are the largest game you will shoot, I'd suggest a 25-06 for speed and ease of ammo access.

In short Kurt, it is "Stellar". The 6.5 Creedmoor's ballistics are superior to the 308 at longer ranges which has downed deer and wild hogs very effectively for decades. At normal hunting distances these game animals are not going to be any deader than using current higher availability rounds. Where the 6.5 Creedmoor will shine and be an advantage if at longer ranges. I would go with the round that is highest availability, most bullet selection range that gets the job done at the "Range you will be hunting". 300yds and under = 308. Beyond 300yds then 6.5 Creedmoor.

It seems to kill medium size big game as well as my 270 Winchester with the same premium bullets. The ballistics are similar to the 270 too. So far nothing has taken more than about 10 steps before falling over. The Hornady 120 gr. GMX (#81490)so far seems best. I haven't taken on an elk yet but I'm sure with careful shot placement it will kill as well as the 270 always does.
