the 627 is a compact frame the 7 shot cylinder is lighter than the 6 shot cylinder the grips are lighter ported . The 66 is a Medium frame heavier grips cylinder is heavier. It all adds up and I have found that the manufacturers weights are not the most accurate specs. For normal use I don't think you would ever wear either of the Taurus revolvers out

James M627 is a larger N-Frame Revolver while the M66 is a smaller K-Frame revolver. Porting, cylinder wall thickness (greater for less round holes) all play a factor. The 617 is a smaller K-Frame as well.
