I really like the color of it. I guess its just what you're used too? From what I've read I understand it to be an extremely smooth and a rugged walnut stock with a lighter color stain. The reviews on this rifle are outstanding too.

Nice light walnut finish hardwood. I like marlins got one myself in the 22 mag ss with heavy barrel never gonna let that go. For the price they got on that XT17V with heavy barrel & stock got me thinking about it now.

This is a good quality stock with some character but not too much (if you know what I mean). Rugged but not rough and has a great color stain. Worst case, if you didn't like it, you could remove it and sell it and buy one you do love.
