Matthew, the extra weight and barrel length will help some but comparing 357 to 44Mag load for load, the 44 will have approximately 35% to 40% more recoil when comparing similar class Magnum loads. 44 Special loads are comparable to standard 357 loads and slightly less than "Full House" 357 Magnum loads. (As usual, recoil is managed differently by different folks).
With Hogue grips, the recoil will/should be a little stronger with the 44. The weight will help a lot.
Matthew, I would compare it to a .357 since it holds the extra weight. The weight alone will help reduce the recoil a bit.
