Beretta arx or the gun above i can get both for under 900 i was wondering which is more durable and best for self defense(i already own a pistol and a shotgun) this will be my first semi rifle

Donald, functionality, durability, features will be very similar for these two rifles. It will boil down to which you feel will be the best ergonomically.  A comfortable firearm is usually one that you will shoot quicker and more accurately. For me the choice would be the S&W M&P15. You will have tons more upgrade options on the AR Platform than the ARX.
