I am about to purchase this item, but I need to know if this rifle can use magnum bullets or is it strictly 22 long? Is it compatible to use short and long bullets. If not, is there a takedown 10/22 magnum rifle?

Hi Ray, Strictly .22LR ammo. There isn't a Magnum model.

You can shoot shorts, Longs, and long rifles but only the .22 Long rifles will cycle the weapon for semi-auto funtion. They do not offer a 22 Magnum version of this model, but there are many other .22 MAG rifles on the market. Id suggest you sttart yourself off with the .22LR Ruger 10/22 though, then move once you build knowledge and confidence.  I prefer the blue box of federal .22 LR ammo for my 10/22, which I buy from  academy. Roughly 500 rds for $23 with free shipping. Best of luck to you!

22 LR ONLY!!! I would recommend higher end as much as possible CCI and so forth. Should shoot just about any 22 LR you stuff into it!!! That being said you will have some issue from time to time with cheaper ammo. That holds true for most firearms! 100% reliability some people forget consists of the firearm and the ammo that firearm is shooting! Good luck Happy Shootin
