Hi Anthony, No it's not tapered just a Hammer Forged Barrel.
No it's not tapered just a Hammer Forged Barrel. link to Ruger spec page for this rifle https://ruger.com/products/mini14RanchRifle/specSheets/5805.html
Anthony, the Ruger Mini-14's have a slight taper at the end of the fore-end and then a consistent diameter to the muzzle end as pictured : https://www.google.com/search?q=Ruger+KMINI-14/5P+223+SSSYN+RNCH+5805&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjmto_XoJLbAhUDvFMKHa5eDMEQ_AUIDCgD&biw=1280&bih=618#imgrc=zxyDysGm569r3M:
The 580 series have a barrel that is heavy out to the end of the stock then it is stepped down to the diameter you see. It ensures accuracy because the heavy part is stiff enough to support the hardware attached to it.
