Hi Charles, You'd be fine with a 5.56. 7.62's have alot of kick. If you're looking for just doing target shooting I'd go with the 5.56 for hunting I'd go with the 7.62.

Charles, this will depend entirely on how often you plan to shoot and the purpose you intend for this firearm. Regular shooting including target, plinking and occasional hunting the 5.56 is sufficient. Hunting with occasional target/plinking then the 7.62. The semi-auto action will absorb a bit of the recoil. If maximum power is your goal then by all means the 7.62 Nato will do but, recoil will be much greater.

I just don't see any real purpose to shoot 7.62 nato I will use the 5.56/223 for fun in the 308/7.62 I will use a good Bolt action rifle as I want it for hunting. any AR in 7.62 I would look at I would want chambered in .308 instead so I can use the good hunting type ammo
