David it will be less but not substantially less. Reason : The 20 Gauge will be proportionally scaled down and lighter in weight so the kick will be there as well. You should try one of the effective slip on decelerator pads on your 12Ga in conjunction with your low recoil loads first. I went to a Remington 11-87 in 20 gauge to get away from the 12 gauge recoil and have no regrets. A little lighter gun to carry too.
