Actual recoil will not be noticeably more but muzzle blast and "Sharper" recoil from the shorter barrel will make it seem like it. A longer barrel tends to lengthen the recoil pulse and the heavier front end of the pistol dampens recoil more over the shorter barrel. Perception is key. If you can shoot a 6", you can shoot a 4" or 8" in my opinion.

I've shot all of them and they are all extremely accurate to 200 yards. The 4 inch is a real handful. You can actually feel it twist in your hands when you shoot it with heavy loads but I was still able to hit the 200 yard ram easily offhand. The 8.5 is the best for a primary hunting gun. The 4 inch is something you carry for emergencies.
