For self defense ammo I recommend any thing that law enforcement uses. Law enforcement generally used ammo that is proven reliable in firearms and in stopping power. Leave the exotic stuff for playing around with. Besides you don't want to have to justify why you needed\used some exotic ammo if you were ever to use your firearm.
