Most guns chambered in .44 Magnum are also compatible with the 44 Special cartridge. But where ever I see the X-Caliber Adapter Set listed, they never list 44 Special as a viable caliber addition (such as the .357 Mag is compatible with .38 Special). Can the .44 Mag adapter indeed fire the 44 Special? If not, why??

Hi Duane, Apart from fouling from the shorter case interfering with the longer case there is really no down side. Some may think accuracy might suffer from the increased bullet jump, but from a practical point of view I haven't seen any evidence of it myself.

yes the adapter is fine with the 44 special it will just require cleaning to remove carbon ring before shooting 44 mag (after shooting a lot of 44 special)

It will work the same Duane. Just remember to clean the chamber when switching from 44Special to 44Magnum so the case mouths won't stick due to carbon buildup due to the shorter 44Specials case.
