with proper shot placement it will kill deer and hogs but in my opinion the 22-250 cartridge to light to be a ethical choice for hunting deer or hogs. To great of a chance of wounding and not killing. also some states have minimum size requirements for deer hunting. I myself would not go smaller than a .243 for deer
