Guy, this load would work within a couple hundred yards on Elk. I would choose a tougher bullet past this range because deer specific loads tend to have thinner jackets and break apart quicker for thinner skinned game such as deer. You will pay a bit more but, you want to put em down clean.

The only time we ever used bullets designed for deer sized animals on elk was when we hunted the migration (herds of 100 to 500) and did not want to shoot through an animal and kill or wound another. It takes prefect shot placement to do it and we shot many out to 400 yards with the 270 win with 130 grain bullets and 25-06 with 120 grain bullets. The 6.5 is a bit light for elk but should do if you are willing to practice and learn where the vitals are (learn to kill them). I would not choose any 6.5 rounds for elk for me a .308 or 30-06 minimum
