I've shot elk with 120 grain premium bullets (Speer Grand Slam) in the 25-06 but you need perfect conditions to do it. I'd suggest a minimum of the 30-06 cartridge and a 165 grain premium bullet for elk.

for me 150 grain .308 or 30-06
