I need more info to be able to help you what do you mean by not fire? does the trigger pull and the hammer fall? is it a failure to feed/eject. 1911s are great guns but they do take a little more knowledge when it comes to having a problem If you repost with a description of what its doing I feel sure I can help you

Christopher, I would stop and not tinker with it for obvious safety and warranty reasons. I would contact Remington Service at TEL: 1-800-243-9700 to arrange an RMA to get your R1 fixed. (http://ccm.remington.com/)
