Raymart, yes, the barrel is actually stamped "5.56NATO" so it will shoot both 5.56 and .223 ammunition just fine.

This gun is labeled as a 5.56 and is compatible with both 5.56 and .223 ammo. The 5,56 NATO round develops a little more pressure than a .223. The 5.56 cartridge has a very slightly larger shoulder (or neck if you will) than the .223. Thus the .223 expands slightly more in this area when fired in a 5.56 chambered rifle. However, there is no issue shooting the .223 in a 5.56 chambered rifle. However, it is not considered safe to fire 5.56 NATO rounds in a rifle chamber for (and labeled) a .223 Rem. As a side note, there are some rifles chambered as .223 Wylde which is designed to shoot both .223 and 5.56 rounds safely. This was an early attempt to allow .223 enthusiast to shoot 5.56 ammo which had recently become the military/NATO standard. Now days most manufacturers of AR type rifles make them as 5.56 compatible which makes it a moot point. Wylde uppers and rifles are still made and available one desires to purchase them.
