Justin, Great question. Went to Mossberg"s armorer school. They make/sell metal and plastic trigger guards on models 500, 590, and 590A1 even to the military. Have heard of some plastics ones breaking from really slammig, dropping, running over them. This specific UPC 015813516600 Mossberg model#51660 does come as described with a metal trigger guard
