I saw a question earlier about a grip and it was answered it was illegal because it was classified as a pistol but to my understanding if it was over 26 inches a vertical was legal this OAL 26.5,am I mistaken?

Charles, yes you are. It is illegal to put a Vertical foregrip on an AR Pistol, with an overall length greater than 26'' without registering the firearm as an AOW. ATF has long held that by installing a vertical fore grip on a handgun, the handgun is no longer designed to be held and fired by the use of a single hand.
