Hi Mike, the confusion is that up to about 3 years ago, it came in a Hard Plastic Case. Ruger has started the Cardboard thing like a few other makers (Probably to save money).

some rugers come in cardboard boxes and some come in plastic cases. as far as I know the SR9 series comes in a plastic case (mine did) the SR22 came in a cardboard box/with a soft case.
