Matthew, I have not been able to find the difference so I would get this straight from Ruger at Telephone: 336-949-5200 (Monday through Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm ET).
Ruger has 2 predator 6.5 CR right hand models to chose from the model 26973 is the newest and it take AI style magazines and is the newer model the older (gen1?) model is the model 6973 and takes the old style ruger American mags link to the 6973 https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/93389/Ruger+American+Predator+6.5CRD+MTBLK
