after research it seems that you can install a heavy recoil spring and be ok however it will void any warranty

Check first to see if the pistol has a fully supported chamber. Drop a 45 ACP in the barrel (after you take the barrel out) and see if there is a gap on the bottom where it has been relieved to ensure smooth feeding. If there is a gap it is unsupported and you cannot fire the 45 Super safely in it.

Not for consistent amounts of shooting Alvin. 45ACP averages 20 to 22,000 PSI and the 45 Super 28,000+ PSI. A firearm if rated for 45ACP +P would not be built sturdy enough for a steady diet of 45 Super which would effective be a 45+P++. This is the reason early 10mm pistols based off of the 45ACP platforms were battered senseless until they were redesigned from the ground up to fire/handle the higher pressure rounds.

Alvin, It is safe, you can try it, may have some cycling/ejection problems without putting in heavier 12-14 lb recoil spring. Will void warranty. XDM chamber is supported right up to the boat tail of the round.
