Dave, No your S&W 1911 is too long. You need number 3 or 4 not 2. But lot to think about unless you just want to throw it in a drawer. I carry shoulder holster. If you not in an open carry state you need a good jacket. Also this holster is vertical carry. Many shoulder holsters will adjust horizontal to vertical carry and many positions in between. You should put one on at a gun shop or sporting good store and try it. Vertical carry is not a quick draw rig. Horizontal in my opinion is quicker draw. Also do you like cross draw? Shoulder harness holster not best CCW option, but lot of people use them. Check one out someplace before you buy.
