Im not 100 percent sure, but I don't think it has anything to do with caliber. I think it has to do with a couple of other things like mag capacity, maybe safety mechanisms, etc. Guns have to meet certain criteria to be legal in CA. This one probably is not, as the description will normally say it is IF it is.

no its not legal its not on the CA DOJ approved list In Ca the specific model has to be submitted and pass all tests even a different color makes it illegal and Kimber would have to submit it in the "new" color and pay for the testing as a example a gun with black grips may be legal and have passes all the tests but if they decided to offer it with a different grip it would have to be submitted as a new guns and retested paid for by the manufacturer.
