Yes Mark, the Stoeger line is good to go quality and function wise. Proper maintenance and lubrication should give you a lifetime of shooting. This shotgun is suitable for pheasant although I'd prefer a 28" barrel to reach our a little farther with a tighter pattern. The barrel length is fine for deer but you should consider getting a "cylinder" or "improved cylinder" choke tube if you ae going to use slugs. My understanding is it comes with a "modified" choke which if a good overall choke for game birds and buckshot. I have read that this shotgun does in fact come with a removeable choke system and it can fire either 3" or 2 3/4" shotgun shells. I would check with Stoeger and find out exactly what brand choke tubes are compatible with this shotgun.
