Joseph, I own several Colts and two RIA's and the RIA's are as sturdily built as the Colts. Quality and craftsmanship are excellent especially for the price point of the pistol.
Check out this Rock Island torture test video on youtube, it performed admirably. RIAs are solid guns, backed by a solid company. Only own one, but it's a nice gun. In fact, it doesn't rattle like a Colt.
It would really depend on where the bullet impacted and the range it was shot from. If you want a gun that looks like a work of art and shoots goo go for a nice Colt. If yo like me want a working gun with a OK fit and finish but that shoots lights out go with the RIA tactical II or ultra series guns
