because the 9mm round is a rimless round and needs the moon clips to hold them in place (headspace) in the cylinder it also give the ejector a place to push on

In the sp101 the moon clips are mainly to make it easier to eject the rounds as the rimless case does not have a rim for the ejector to push on

the 38/357 does not require moon clips
