i am looking at the colt le6940 ar15 carbine sa 223/556. this will be my first ar. the research ive done out on the net says you cant shoot a 556 out of a 223 chamber, so im thinking this rifle is chambered for a 556 that way it can shoot a 223, is this correct?

Yes you are correct it is chambered for the 5.56 but .223 will work just fine the barrel is marked .223/5.56
