You are correct. Opinions are as numerous as there are shooters. I've used pretty much nothing but Mobil 1 Synthetic 0-10 for several years now, and have absolutely no complaints, or problems with it. The price is right, and it is readily available. Use it on my ARs, my 1911s, Glocks ...... on any firearm I own. It's clean, no objectionable smell, and definitely seems to keep wear to a very minimum. Has never harmed a finish of any type. Give it a try.
Steven, I have been using FireClean for a minute with great results. To be perfectly honest, I have also used Full Synthetic Castrol Motor oil and am hard pressed to tell the difference overall and it is much less expensive per ounce as well. I simply top off my small gun bottles when needed with what's left after every other oil change.
I use Ballistol for pretty much all my cleaning and lubrication. It's none toxic, is wonderful for your wooden stocks and just works.
Rem oil and Rig grease
I use Break Free CL-P and rem oil. These have worked well for me and were also suggested by a trainer for police department.
Have had best results with this combination: Ballistol on externals and slip 2000 on internals.
I use full synthetic 4 cycle motorcycle oil. It lubricates and has additives to keep the wet clutches clean so it floats fouling away. At less than 50 cents an ounce it's a deal. I shoot 30,000 plus rounds a year in competition and it works.
