Chris - all 1911s have interchangable back straps (called "main spring housing" on a 1911). These are available from many sources, in many different configurations including flat, with a smooth finish. They aren't too difficult to change, but any gunsmith could change one out for you in a few minutes, and the charges would be minimal. Quick answer is no. Arched mainspring housing is standard on model 1911 A1. Flat on 1911. Arched was considered an improvement that aided point ability. I never could tell much difference when shooting.
