Ronnie, yes it is an excellent starter pistol. I personally would go with a subcompact 9mm Glock for better versatility in ammunition choices.

Ronnie - Sure. Honestly, there are hundreds of good "beginner" guns. Most of the medium size 9mm pistols would be fine. The thing about finding a good 'beginner' gun is remembering that after a while, the person shooting it won't be a beginner any longer, and if he gun they have doesn't fit them, they'll no enjoy shooting it. I always recommend going to a range and trying a few guns before actually buying one, or trying out a friend's guns. . That will give you a feel for what feels "right" to you, and you will have a better idea of which direction you want to go. And you'll find the 9mm medium size pistols don't 'kick' any harder than this one, and some might actually feel more 'gentle'. 9mm is a great caliber. 380 is OK too. If you plan on carrying this gun, and using it for self defense only, then it's fine. If you want something you can take to a range and truly enjoy putting a lot of rounds through it then I recommend something just a bit more substantial. A Glock 19 is h

That will depend on what you plan to do with it if you are going to carry it then its a good beginners gun but if it is just for the range an home I would go with a larger (full size) 9mm The full size gun is easier to shoot. and the 9mm ammo is 1/2 the price of .380 the recoil with a heavy full size 9mm will be close to the same as a light weight .380
