Mark, yes, the Revolver Supply Co. Fiber Optic Front Sight will help a good bit with sight/target acquisition. It will make a world of difference.

My eyes are only 22 years old but I already find fiber optic sights much easier to pick up especially compared to the stock S&W red ramp sights. The only potential hiccup I could conceive about swapping the front sight is if the new one is a different height. I believe the stock front blade should be about 0.250" but you might also be able to measure that yourself. Anything reasonably close to that number shouldn't cause any major issues especially since the rear sight can be adjusted to compensate for the height difference. I believe Revolver Supply Co. also offers sights without the dovetail cut into the sight so that you or a gunsmith could tailor it to your desired height; might be worth contacting them about.
