Sol, I have read favorable reviews of this gun on other sites. It should serve well as a high school trap gun if the stock is a good fit for him and he can point well with it. The price point is also pretty good, the sky is the limit for prices when it comes to trap/skeet guns but this has a good selection of features for the money. I don't personally own one of these guns so perhaps someone who does can chime in with more information.

Sol, this would be an excellent Compact/Youth Model "Trap" Gun. Winchester built this shotgun from the ground up to excel in trap shooting. Winchester's SXP makes the perfect choice. The fastest pump action shotgun in the world, it has an inertia-assisted pump that is capable of delivering three shots in half a second. Light weight, perfect balance and instant pointability combined with that incredible action make the Winchester SXP ideal for trap, sporting clays and hunting.

This shotgun has some very good reviews. As Trevor stated, first and foremost, you won will need a gun that fits him, and one he is comfortable with, as far as stock length, stock 'angle' (comb) weight and barrel length. But if your son is a big, strapping young man, then it probably wouldn't matter. From the reviews, though, this would probably be a good choice for high school trap.

Keep in mind this is a "compact" model, you might be better served by the standard SXP Trap model. Figure out what length of pull is best for you and go from there - fitting is the most important thing to consider with shotguns.
