Mark, I actually prefer the "Checkered" Grips as I own both types and during a shooting session, the smooth grips will slide around just a smidgen more. At least for me, there is also a feeling, whether real or imagined" of having more control during recoil with the checkered grips.

Mark - I think you will find that this model comes with a Hogue grip - and it looks pretty similar those were considering. I would most definitely give the original grip a try first, as the ones you mentioned are so similar/identical. I personally prefer the Hogue rubber monogrip for small revolvers (the 19000). It 'tames' the recoil a bit, ensures a good grip, and I just like the looks of it. Check out 19502, also, and see what you think. Based on years of experience (lol) of buying things that didn't exactly turn out to be what I had hoped, I suggest you try out some different grip styles on similarly sized revolvers - maybe a friend's or at a shooting range or local gun store. That will give you a more definite idea of what you really do prefer. Best of luck to you (But I like the checkered 19901 best)

Mark, I have one smooth and a few checkered grips for my revolvers (the smooth one is a Hogue), and I personally notice very little difference. With 9mm recoil won't be particularly stout so maintaining a good grip is relatively easy. I am at the point where I make my decision mostly on cosmetics for checkering vs. no checkering, your experience may vary. Just my two cents!

I run this revolver in competition and it does slip in your hand with smooth grips and the ones that come on it even though checkered are not enough. It is a round butt and I put Hogue rubber grips on it and they work nicely.
