John, yes Sir they will fit perfectly as the Model 686 is based on S&W's K/L (medium) revolver frame with "Round Butt" Handle.

John, they will fit ... but I really suggest you check out Hogue's Rubber grips for your S&W.  I've used both Pachmayr and Hogue, and I much prefer the Hogue as the consistency of the rubber material is just better to absorb the recoil, and gives one q better grip on the revolver.
