John, the switch will be fine but, I would get a dedicated 22 pistol for your son for the very reason you inferred. Don't mess with perfection!

No sir, it will not harm your pistol to switch back and forth between the 9mm and this kit. It is a good training aid, and costs less for 22 ammo than 9mm, of course. However .. if accuracy is your overall goal, you might consider getting one of the Ruger Mark IV target pistols for just a few more bucks than this kit costs, and I knowfrom experience the little Ruger Mark pistols are pretty darn accurate. I regularly put 10 rounds into a jagged edged single hole at 7 yards, and 3/4 - 1" groups at 12 -15 yards are commonplace. Just a thought ... and you'll still be training your son on a 'semi-auto' pistol ... plus the little Rugers are just plain fun to shoot.

For nearly the same money you can get a dedicated .22 pistol. The kadet kits are good, have one for my Shadow 2, but my Buckmark 22s are more accurate.
