Apparently, the tapered cylinder is the wave of the future for SP101s. First appearing on the Wiley Clapp model, the tapered cylinder seems to be showing up on more and more SP101s as the older ones sell, and newer ones are shipped from Ruger. I am aware of a couple that went in for repair that had the straight cylinder and were returned with a tapered cylinder. Also, ihas been featured on some newer .327s that have been sold. Supposedly, the tapered cylinder is to aid in reholstering the firearm, making re-entry into the holster a bit more smooth and easier. Can;t say for sure ... but seems to be appearing on more and more. I can only suggest, as randy said, call Buds and ask which cylinder their present stock of .357 SP101s has installed.
