Hogue wood grips are top notch, for sure. I personally like the rubber monogrips and haven't experienced any problems in any of the instances I have used them. Is this something that could be trimmed neatly off with a good sharp knife or razor blade without being unsightly or looking :altered"? I'm surprised, really, that you are having this problem because Hogue has made thousands of monogrips for S&W revolvers. But, yes, the wood grips I've had have 'fit like a glove' and been very comfortable grips. Sorry to hear about your problem. Best of luck in whatever you choose to do.
Mark, the Hogue Grips do have the gap as you have learned. The wood grips will not be 100% gap free but will be barely noticeable unless you are familiar with the fit.
The wood grips will fit better than the rubber grips
