Maybe Mark, something like this would be more to your liking? https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fvzgrips.com%2Fmedia%2Fcatalog%2Fcategory%2FCategory-NF_1.jpg&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fvzgrips.com%2Fpistol-grips%2Fsmith-wesson&docid=9Md9dyNa-KNTSM&tbnid=LPWnfXnduihJfM%3A&vet=10ahUKEwjq05Kh1NXgAhUL5YMKHcWOASkQMwhOKBAwEA..i&w=600&h=400&bih=736&biw=1440&q=S%26W%20986%20hogue%20monogrip&ved=0ahUKEwjq05Kh1NXgAhUL5YMKHcWOASkQMwhOKBAwEA&iact=mrc&uact=8
Mark, yes Sir. This gap has always been a complaint on the 986 looking at other 986 owner reviews. To date, I don't thing Hogue has done anything to address this specific issue.
Oh me .... if this were an ongoing, common problem, Hogue would have most definitely fixed it by now. Grips are their livelihood. I speak from 50+ years of shooting experience., not some 'isolated review' on the internet'.. Again, Mark, Sorry about your problem. Did you address it with Hogue? I feel sure, based on my experience with Hogue, they would make it right.
