Britten, yes, it is true. This is called a "Transfer Fee" and California FFL's tend to run higher than the $25 to $35 dollars here on the East Coast.

Yes but that fee is set by the local FFL so call around and see if anyone will do it for less enter your zip code (at the link) and start calling the ones near you https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/ffl.php

Britten - I pay $20 transfer fee to my FFL. Shop around - but yes, I can see the CA FFL fees are running $50 - $65. Ask the FFL if he can sell you the same gun for Buds price, plus $60 and see what he says. Then you'll know if he is on the level..
