.451s usually work just fine, but some firearms seem to prefer the .454s. Get a few of each, and try them. See which one gives you best performance and accuracy, then stick with it. Whichever size you use, you will see that a thin layer of lead is 'sheared' off as the ball enters the cylinder. The .451s will load just a bit easier, as they will 'shear' less lead - making them a bit easier to push into the cylinder.
