Yes, most all firearms are test fired at the factory. There should not be an excessive amount of carbon or soot though. A thorough cleaning and lube should reveal excessive firing wear but, I think you are fine.

James, Yes that is very common. The reason is they test fire (proof testing) the rifle at the factory. It was quite common up until a few years ago to include the spent rifle (or pistol cartridge) in a sealed/signed envelope as evidence that it was weapon was "proof tested". I guess the manufacturers quite doing the envelope thing to save a little on labor and envelope cost (?).
