Roy, This hand grip normally mounts to a "Picatinny" Rail. If your Bushmaster M4 has a bottom Rail you are good. If it has the standard non railed hand guard, here is the procedure to add a rail if you don't want to buy a Quad Rail hand guard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lT-da_KqV4M

Roy - if you have a rail on the bottom of your hand guard, then you're good to go - merely placing it where you want it and tightening the mount. If you don;t already have a rail on your hand guard, then yes, you will need to install one in order to install this fore grip. Either way, it's "easy peasy".

depends on your gun If you have a Bottom rail then it will fit with no issues if you don't have a rail then you will need a adapter
