Is the hand stop removable? I would be interested in perhaps removing it & putting a small flashlight in that spot. As I'm looking at this purchase for home defense I think a light would be good but obviously wouldn't want to mount it up top in case I need to use the sights. Being an old soldier I'm completely in the dark about how M-LOK works other than the most basic understanding. Any insight & guidance here would be greatly appreciated. Is side mounting an option on this weapon? Thx.

You can absolutely remove it, but I wouldn't recommend it because it helps prevent your hand from slipping in front of the muzzle while firing. If you want to mount a light I'd recommend the Haley Strategic Thorntail 2 mlok mount that you can place at either 3 or 6 o'clock.

Timothy, Keep the hand stop on this pistol and mount your light on one of the sides or one of the 45 degree angle rails. The hand stop can be removed if you choose to.

Timothy, yes it is removable. Short barreled AR's AK's tend to present higher risk, in high stress environments, of getting a limb/digit in front of the muzzle and this reduces that chance greatly.
