It's in reference to the slide finish. It's a coating kind of like cerakote. I'm not sure as to why some models come with 3 mags.
Michael, The Nitron finish is a heat treating process with chemical bath to create a very hard surface with an oxide (black) finish. It's a Physical Vapor Deposition Coating applied by IONBOND. It's actually amorphous Tunsten DLC (Diamond Like Carbon). Most manufacturers including Sig LE pistol packages include (3) Magazines over the standard package (2) Magazines.
Nitron is what Sig calls the Coating on their firearms. different packages get different accessories including mags may times the packages with 3 mags are the Qualified professional packages (LE/Military)
Michael - Nitron is name given to the process Sig Sauer utilizes to treat the metal parts of their handguns to prevent corrosion. It is done for both protection and appearance. The gun comes with three mags simply because the extra mag is Sig Sauer (and other manufacturers) 'enhancement' of firearms produced/marketed for law enforcement personnel. It gives the officers a ;'duty ready' package out-of-the-box.
